For my last inquiry post I have decided to share some of the journaling I’ve done, most within our class but some i have included from earlier in the year
If anything is a direct portal into my mind it would be my journalwork! Enjoy some of my more vulnerable work!
Here it is! City one! ugh! I know for a fact that I will be going over this again.
For my next city I want to focus on three main points.
Depth
I want my buildings to have more depth, I will try next time to add shading and backdrops to add to the “building” aspect
World
I want the city to feel like it belongs there. In City1 I fear that it feels too out of place. Lighter colors on the background would help.
Layering
The layering in this painting is hideous. Sometimes I look at it and wonder what I was doing. For City2 I want to especially work on this aspect of spray paint.
I wanted to include this within my inquiry because it is an extenuation of work we have done in our art class. Recently we had done a workshop in printmaking via Styrofoam denting, and my partner had some lyno print and ink! So we collaborated on a canvas together.
This canvas means more to me because of the person that helped me make it. I got to show them how to use some of my materials and they showed me how to use theirs. I had a lot of fun making this canvas with them and I will always treasure my memories of it.
Within art it is so easy for me to get lost in my own world and so consumed with what only I am capable of. I see this within my musical world as well, and often when I feel like this I find some inspiration in the form of other drummers in other local bands. So in this scenario I will need to find other artists that can help me, and this just so happened to be my wonderful partner.
This is my first attempt with drawing bugs. As you can see above I’ve named this “Bugs 1” to assume that there will be a sequel. This project I wanted to try my hand at sketching things from memory, this will become a motif when I show off “City 1” and “City 2”. Both are crude drawings of downtowns. I personally do not like either of them however that is part of the process.
A big part of this work was being nice to myself, understanding that something is better left underworked, and a good introduction to character working. I find that often I am too hard on myself for art especially, so a goal of mine for this canvas was to not get mad at myself. When I pained this it was 6pm on a weeknight, I had a speaker and a friend of mine had joined me for the session. I remember being happy when I pained this and when I look at this work I do not see it’s flaws but the emotion behind it.
Multimedia has a special place in my heart because of how human it is. I say that because when I picture the most human art I picture scraping whatever is there to make beauty, and often I find myself using many different things around me to create and shape my art. My focus for this canvas is primarily to fill out the thinner areas with different medias. I have acrylic and oil paint, in many different forms here.
I love the way some different kinds of spray overlap on each other. I have these oil sprays and these acrylic sprays I have been putting over each other to see the effects and so far I’ve liked it. I want to explore this media more and you will probably see another log showcasing a canvas with it as its focus.
This canvas is not done. I will finish it up and post it to my blog here. Next post will include a canvas that is also not finished that I will figure out.
